Hello! I’m Carli. I am a singer, songwriter, recording artist and performer with a background in styles ranging from folk to musical theater, to opera, to R&B.
I love sharing what I have learned over the course of 20 years of singing and studying the voice.
I believe that singing is a uniquely human form of expression that we all have access to - i.e. anyone can sing!
My philosophy is that everyone can sing.
I believe that singing is one of our freest and most powerful human forms of expression. The same as laughing, crying or dancing; I believe it is a primal instinct. I believe that everyone can and should sing!
My approach: breathing & being brave
For healthy singing, our main tool is the breath. In our lessons, we will learn the technique of how to breathe for singing and where to let go of unneccesary tension vs. where to engage helpful muscles.
Singing can feel really scary or nerve-wracking. If you feel this way about coming in for a lesson, please know that you are not alone! In fact, this is true of every single student who walks through my door :) Taking lessons and committing to singing through those nerves is brave - and is so good for you!
What we’ll work on:
Most of our challenges in singing come from simply not knowing the answers to our singing questions! :) Singing is a skill that anyone can build, it just takes time, knowledge and repetition. I’ll help you turn a light on and answer those question marks around your voice.
Sometimes challenges come from mental blocks, too. Singing is vulnerable, so our bodies build up all kinds of safety mechanisms to protect us from sounding bad. Often these habits BECOME the problem! So we might do a lot of un-learning and re-learning.
Making a sound that we’re not sure about can be really hard to do. I aim to foster a free and safe space to try out weird sounds, especially LOUD SOUNDS, so come in ready to play and get a little silly! Singing can be fun and not serious :)
I utilize ideas from a wide array of practices : speech therapy, yoga, voice for stage acting, classical music, contemporary, musical theatre, and more.
My aim is to help you take your voice out of the dark; to help you connect all the different “parts” of it into one whole voice, and to assist you in developing the muscle memory you need to achieve the consistency you’re looking for.
All levels are welcome!
I love working with total beginners. Most of my students are learning to locate and navigate the unfamiliar parts of their voices for the first time. Some have never sung in front of anyone before our first lesson!
Some students come in with a bit of experience, maybe they’ve been in choir before or sung in bands, but have never had the chance to focus on technique or develop their own own sound.
And some of my students are already pro’s! I draw from my own experience as a professional singer when helping an already-accomplished vocalist find healthy ways to expand their range, let go of tension, or find their true, unique sound.

If you commit to monthly lessons, either once per week, or once every other week, there’s no need to pay in one lump sum (unless you prefer to!), instead you will sign up for a recurring lesson time and will pay the discounted rate on the day of your lesson. The only difference is that this will be true even if you need to cancel. Make-up lessons will be available for any cancelled lesson as long as they are re-scheduled within that same month. Make-up lessons will not roll over to the following month. Basically you’re just agreeing to a weekly or bi-weekly lesson and payment! If you don’t wish to continue on a monthly plan, just give me 24-hours notice before your first lesson in the next monthly cycle starts. Once we’ve had our first lesson of the month at the discounted rate, refunds/cancellation won’t be available. The only policy for drop-in lessons is a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel within that window, you will pay the full cost of the lesson. A make-up lesson will be available as long as we are able to schedule within one week.
